The Adventure Begins

It only took us four months since we dreamed up the idea -- we are finally setting out for the first of our 8 North Carolina adventures tomorrow! We're off to Jockey's Ridge on the Outer Banks. We'll camp out nearby, and head over to the dunes Friday morning for hang-gliding lessons. Several years ago, Hollie and Allison took me parasailing for my birthday, and Hollie was NOT a fan, so I'm curious to see what she thinks of this new airborne activity. For my part, I have a ridiculous fear of being attacked by a shark, so we'll see if I can be convinced to go into the ocean past knee-deep after the wave of shark bites along the coast this summer. About Our Project

We've been friends for six years, and always love exploring and trying new things together. We started 2015 with a trek through Sri Lanka as part of Diane's sabbatical. So, a few months later as we celebrated our 38th birthdays, we began brainstorming about what new adventures we could dream up, and we realized there were lots of fun things close to home we still had not experienced.

So, we crowd-sourced our friends on Facebook, and with their help we compiled a HUGE list of must-see sights in North Carolina that neither of us had visited before. The list was waaaaay longer than our budgets and vacation schedule would allow, so we went back to our trusty, opinionated Facebook public and let them vote on the top eight, which we promised to make pilgrimages to before (or at least, reasonably close to) our next birthdays. Thus was born the "8 in 38" adventure!
